One thing needs to be said upfront before any spec talk: GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox on November 19, 2026, but Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC release date at all. Based on how past GTA titles rolled out, a PC version realistically lands sometime in late 2027, possibly slipping into 2028. So everything below is prediction and community benchmarking, not an official Rockstar spec sheet. Worth knowing before you start shopping for parts.

That said, if you’re planning ahead (and plenty of PC players are already upgrading rigs a year out), here’s what the hardware conversation looks like right now.

    Estimated GTA 6 system requirements

    GTA 6 Estimated Minimum Requirements
    Component Requirement
    CPU Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600
GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 / AMD RX 5600 XT
    RAM 16GB
    Storage 150GB HDD
    OS Windows 10 (64-bit)
    GTA 6 Estimated Recommended Requirements
    Component Requirement
    CPU Intel Core i7-12700K / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
GPU NVIDIA RTX 3070 / AMD RX 6700 XT
    RAM 32GB
    Storage 150GB NVMe SSD
    OS Windows 11

CPU: why it matters more than usual this time

The processor is doing a lot of the invisible work in GTA 6, running the AI behavior, traffic logic and world simulation in real time. A busier, more reactive world means a heavier CPU load than older Rockstar games ever needed. Match or beat the recommended tier and you’ll notice it mainly in the chaotic moments: dense traffic, crowded streets, police chases, the stuff that used to tank frame rates on older hardware.

A few CPUs worth considering if you’re building now:

    • Intel Core i5-13600KF: a strong price-to-performance pick with solid single-core and multi-core numbers.
    • Intel Core i7-12700K: handles heavier workloads well, which should translate to steadier frame rates in dense city areas.
    • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X: reliable multi-core performance without the bottleneck issues older Ryzen chips sometimes run into.
    • GPU: the part that decides how it actually looks
    • Lighting, reflections and environmental detail are getting a real upgrade in GTA 6, so the graphics card is doing more than it used to. What counts as the “best” GPU really depends on your target resolution.
    • NVIDIA RTX 3060: a solid, affordable entry point for high settings at 1080p.
    • NVIDIA RTX 3070: the sweet spot for 1440p with decent ray tracing headroom.
    • NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti: efficient, powerful, a strong all-rounder for modern AAA titles.
    • NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti: newer architecture, DLSS 3 support, good value.
    • AMD RX 6700 XT: the budget option that still handles high settings without much complaint.
    • RAM: how much you actually need

Open worlds this size and textures this detailed push memory usage up fast. 16GB gets you through minimum settings but you’ll feel it during heavier gameplay. 32GB is where things start feeling smooth and consistent. 64GB really only matters if you’re streaming or running other demanding apps alongside the game.

    • 16GB: fine for minimum, but expect some strain during busy scenes.
    • 32GB: the sweet spot for consistent frame pacing.
    • 64GB: overkill for gameplay alone, useful for streamers and heavy multitaskers.
    • Storage: SSD isn’t optional here

A bigger, more detailed map means storage speed shows up in ways you’ll actually notice: texture pop-in, loading screens, stutter during fast travel or driving. An NVMe SSD isn’t a nice-to-have anymore, it’s close to mandatory if you want the game to look and feel the way it’s supposed to.

    • 1TB SSD: the safer long-term choice, fast streaming and no capacity headaches.
    • 500GB SSD: workable, but you’ll be managing space if you install much else.
    • VRAM: the number people forget to check
    • VRAM handles textures, shadows and how well the game renders large environments, and it becomes a bigger deal as resolution climbs.
    • 6GB: fine for low settings only.
    • 8 to 12GB: comfortable for high settings at 1080p and 1440p.
    • 16GB: what you’ll want if you’re chasing 4K or ultra settings.
    • Going for 4K and ultra settings

If you’re building specifically for 4K, the recommended tier above won’t cut it. Here’s what people are pointing to for a serious 4K rig:

    • CPU: Intel i9-13900KF or Ryzen 9 7900X3D, both built for heavy sustained loads.
    • GPU: RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX, enough VRAM and rendering power for 4K without compromise.
    • RAM: 32 to 64GB, depending on what else is running.
    • Storage: NVMe SSD, no way around it at this resolution.
    • Settings worth tweaking for better FPS
    • Not every ultra setting is worth the performance hit. A few adjustments go a long way without hurting how the game looks:
    • Lower shadow quality to ease GPU load.
    • Cut reflections back a notch, they’re expensive and often barely noticeable mid-gameplay.
    • Turn on DLSS or FSR, easy FPS gains with minimal visual tradeoff.
    • Adjust crowd density if things get choppy in busy areas.
    • Optimization tips that matter as much as your hardware
    • Good hardware only gets you halfway there. A few habits make a real difference, especially on mid-range PCs.
    • Keep GPU drivers updated. Manufacturers push updates that specifically target new releases, and running outdated drivers is a common, avoidable source of crashes and lower FPS.
    • Turn on XMP or EXPO. Most RAM doesn’t run at its rated speed out of the box. Enabling XMP on Intel or EXPO on AMD in the BIOS unlocks that speed and helps reduce stuttering.
    • Close background apps before launching. Every browser tab and background process is competing for the same CPU, RAM and disk resources the game needs.
    • Watch your temperatures. Thermal throttling quietly tanks performance long before you notice a crash. A monitoring tool and decent airflow go a long way.
    • Use DLSS or FSR. Rendering at a lower internal resolution and upscaling is one of the easiest performance wins available on mid-range systems.
    • Be selective with graphics settings. Shadows, reflections and crowd density tend to cost the most for the least visual payoff. Tune those first before touching anything else.

    Bottom line

GTA 6 is going to ask more of PC hardware than any previous Rockstar release, but remember: none of this is official yet. Treat these numbers as a planning guide, not a guarantee, and expect Rockstar to publish real specs only once a PC release date actually gets confirmed. A capable CPU, a GPU that matches your target resolution, enough RAM, and an SSD will cover you either way. Once your hardware is sorted, the next step is figuring out release timing and where to buy: our GTA 6 release date, pre-order, price and editions guide covers that side of things.

    FAQs

Which GPU is best for playing GTA 6 in 4K?

An RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX should handle 4K comfortably, with enough VRAM and rendering power for high settings.

What are the minimum system requirements for GTA 6 on PC?

Community estimates point to a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i5-9600K, GTX 1660, 16GB RAM and 150GB of storage, though nothing is officially confirmed by Rockstar yet.

How much RAM do I need for GTA 6 on ultra settings?

32GB should keep things smooth. 64GB only helps if you’re streaming or multitasking heavily alongside the game.

How do GTA 6 requirements compare to GTA 5?

Expect noticeably higher demands across the board: more RAM, stronger GPUs, faster CPUs and SSD storage instead of the HDD that GTA 5 originally shipped with.

Will GTA 6 actually come out on PC?

Yes, eventually, but there’s no confirmed date. Rockstar has a track record of releasing PC versions well after consoles (GTA 5’s PC version landed about a year and a half after console launch), so patience is part of the deal.

Why is the PC version delayed compared to console?

Reports citing a former Rockstar producer point to limited development resources being focused on the console launch first, which has been Rockstar’s pattern with past GTA titles too.

What PC can actually run GTA 6 right now?

Nobody knows for certain since Rockstar hasn’t published specs. Early predictions from hardware outlets center around an RTX 2060 or RX 6600-class GPU paired with a modern 6-core CPU as a likely minimum bar.

    Can I play GTA 6 on a low-end PC?

Probably not at full settings once it arrives. Predicted minimum specs suggest a fairly modern budget build could handle low settings, but real answers won’t exist until Rockstar confirms a PC release.

Is GTA 6 available for pre-order on PC?

Not yet. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, but only for the PS5 and Xbox versions. PC pre-orders won’t be a thing until a PC release window is actually announced.
