Are the movie buffs not in the mood to watch action thrillers? Or was it purely the lack of merit that doomed Luck, a thriller based on a novel theme, at box office? Such questions are plaguing Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision after the debacle of their ‘Luck’, for up for release in October is their costliest action adventure Blue.
Fortunately, the production house did not bear the brunt of the super failure of ‘Luck’ because the movie was bought by Studio 18 just before its release. But now, not many corporate studios in the industry would be willing to lap up ‘Blue’ after seeing what happened to ‘Luck’.
Which means Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision might have to brave the risk of releasing a Rs 70 crore movie solely.
Remedial measures are already underway. The film’s director Anthony D’Souza has decided to add another song starring Akshay Kumar in the film. Considering Akshay’s resurgence after the success of Kambakkht Ishq, the move might lend more star value to the film.
The movie already features Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta and Zayed Khan besides Akshay. Katrina Kaif has a guest appearance, which again might not be a crowd-pulling factor to ensure more footfalls in theatres.
D’Souza says the song to be shot on Akshay is a special number composed by A R Rahman. It will be filmed in the coming days and will feature at the end of ‘Blue’ when the end credits roll. The movie already has Akshay shaking his leg with the Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue in a song sung by her.
‘Blue’ is set for mid-October release.
