If I were to receive a call from someone claiming to be me, I would naturally freak out, or run to a shrink, or better, change my number, if not name. But Karthik (Farhan Akhtar) doesn’t do any of these. For he’s at the rock bottom of his life. Snubbed by everyone from his irate landlord to snooty boss (Ram Kapoor), Karthik, the under-confident, shy, withdrawn, bashful protagonist of Karthik Calling Karthik, lives a humdrum life at home, at office, and in between. The best thing about KCK is its spontaneity. It stays away from all traditional potboiler materials and themes. In fact, it surprises you with its wit, humour and an awe inspiring premise. The screenplay goes back and forth and leaves you guessing if this is a psychological thriller or a supernatural feature. Deepika Padukone does a fantastic job as Karthik’s sweetheart and exhibits calibre in scenes of shock and fear. Farhan handles the nuances of his role with ease and makes you believe in the contradictions of his complex character.
It does, At one level. Vijay Lalwani’s film is immensely watchable, purely for the class act by Farhan Akhtar in the title role. Even Deepika Padukone pitches in perfectly as the sassy, uptown girl who has burnt her fingers a bit too much, as do the fringe players like Ram Kapoor and Shefali Chayya. One does wish there was a bit more of the bubbly Ms Padukone, though. Where it doesn’t work is the entertainment factor. The screenplay does tend to get a bit clunky and the drama somewhat heavy as the director looks for text book resolutions of the teasing problem. But, by and large, there is a thrill factor that keeps the momentum on.
There are also other interesting faces that are highlighted in the film like Ram Kapoor, Vivan Bhatena, Vipin Sharma, Yateen Karyekar and Shifaali Shah.
At the end one can say that it is a beautiful story, presented in a lively manner by the director Vijay Lalwani who’s also penned the entire script of the ‘KCK’. Proves worth your wallet.
Check out the teaser of Tum Milo Toh Sahi starring Nana Patekar, Dimple Kapadia, Suniel Shetty, Vidya Malvade, Rehan Khan and Anjana Sukhani. Tum Milo Toh Sahi is a love story across different ages. Like?
Check out where Vanessa Hudgens, some indie rock kids and a tortured, love-sick vampire sit on Kidzworld’s list of Top 10 Romantic Movies.
Charlotte wants to challenge her ex in the battle of the bands so she asks Will, the new kid in town, to help manage the band. Vanessa Hudgens also stars as the cute lead singer who falls for Will. It’s worth watching just to see rock icon David Bowie in a short cameo as himself.
Sandra Bullock stars as a hardnosed book editor who’s hated by her entire staff. When she finds out she’s being deported to Canada, she forces her assistant Andrew (played by Ryan Reynolds) to marry her. But what starts out as a business deal, turns into a genuine romance when the two are forced to spend the weekend with Andrew’s family.
This musical is loosely tied around the stories taken from more than 30 Beatles songs. The plot revolves around Jude (named after the character from Hey Jude) and Lucy (Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds) who move to New York City to pursue their artistic dreams.
7. The Notebook
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams star in this tear-jerker about first love. Allie and Noah meet at a carnival and fall madly in love. But, Allie’s rich family doesn’t approve of poor Noah and forces them apart. The Notebook is definitely a flick that you have to watch with a box of Kleenex at your side.
In this Nicholas Spark novel-turned-movie Mandy Moore plays a girl with leukemia whose life drastically changes when she meets a boy who is her exact opposite, and warns him not to fall in love with her.

This smart romcom follows more than ten couples as they navigate the various forms of love. The British Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) falls for a sweet member of his housestaff, an eleven-year-old boy is convinced he knows what love is, a heartbroken writer falls in love with his kind, Portuguese housekeeper and a wedding video reveals that the groom’s best man is in love with the bride.
Life sucks when your soul mate is a hundred-year-old vampire who has to resist the urge to literally eat you up.
