Saudi authorities admit Khashoggi killed in consulate

Saudi-friendly Kushner ‘keeping low profile’ as Trump admin shrugs off Khashoggi case report claims

The announcement could ease strains with the US and Turkey but leaves lingering questions about the extent of Prince Mohammed's role in and knowledge of the incident.

October 14: Turkey's Foreign Ministry renews calls on Saudi Arabia to allow investigators to search the consulate.

She also noted that human rights organizations have underlined the need for "an impartial and independent investigation by the United Nations to find out what happened and ensure justice" for Khashoggi.

On the day of Khashoggi's disappearance, 15 other Saudis, including several officials, arrived in Istanbul on two planes and visited the consulate while he was still inside, according to Turkish police sources.

"After the recognition of Khashoggi's death, we expect a determined, constant and powerful pressure to be kept on Saudi Arabia in order to get the whole truth on the case and the release of Saudi Arabian journalists (who have) been condemned to insane and terrible sentences". Trump dispatched Pompeo earlier in the week to Saudi Arabia and Turkey to speak to officials about the case.

Khashoggi, who was US -based and wrote for The Washington Post, disappeared on October 2 after going into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Members of the committee include the interior and foreign ministers as well as the heads of the General Intelligence and State Security.

"It's not possible for the Saudi administration to wiggle itself out of this crime if it's confirmed", said Numan Kurtulmus, deputy head of Turkey's Justice and Development Party.

The killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi is creating diplomatic repercussions around the world. He also said he thought third parties were involved in the death.

Mnuchin Won't be at Saudi Conference After Disappearance
Khashoggi's editor said the article "perfectly captures his commitment and passion for freedom in the Arab world". Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday he will not attend an investment conference in Saudi Arabia.

Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian 'shocked' over Khashoggi disappearance
Turkish police believe he was killed by a special team of 15 Saudi officials, but Riyadh has dismissed the claim as "baseless". Khashoggi, a USA resident, has not been seen in public since he entered the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Ariana Grande Promises To Get Past Pete Drama For ‘Wicked’ TV Event
TMZ first reported that the 25-year-old pop star and the 24-year-old Saturday Night Live star called it quits over the weekend. The two were spotted leaving 30 Rock at around noon on October 14, just hours before the news of their breakup went public.

Egypt has not yet released another comment following Saudi Arabia's latest statement.

Investigating Turkish officials surmised that Khashoggi was killed during his time in the building, an allegation that Saudi Arabia initially denied.

'The United States acknowledges the announcement from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that its investigation into the fate of Jamal Khasshoggi is progressing and that it has taken action against the suspects it has identified thus far, ' Press Secretary Sarah Sanders wrote in a statement. Saudi Arabia had claimed ignorance of the incident before making this statement.

But the Saudi government remained vague in their evidence to support their account of the incident that led to Khashoggi's death and did not disclose the whereabouts of his body.

Mr Khashoggi's fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, questioned in a tweet what had happened to his body, saying: "The heart grieves, the eye tears, and with your separation we are saddened, my dear Jamal".

Turan Kislakci, president of the Turkish Arab Media Association, said Khashoggi was "slaughtered by bloody murderers" and that his group wants "true justice" for its slain colleague.

Washington Post Global Opinions editor Karen Attiah had a pretty blunt reaction last night to Saudi Arabia's explanation of what happened to Jamal Khashoggi. Khashoggi had gone to the consulate to get papers he needed to be married.

The vague statement has not explained exactly how he died, but the suspects then apparently tried to cover it up.
