Westminster terror attack: Who is Salih Khater? Parliament crash suspect named

Houses of Parliament crash

A vehicle slammed into barriers outside Britain's Houses of Parliament Tuesday morning, injuring several people, police in London say.

The incident happened at 7.37 this morning, when a silver Ford Fiesta collided with a number of cyclists and pedestrians before crashing into barriers outside the Houses of Parliament.

The area is in lockdown after armed police swarmed the scene, with counter-terrorism officers leading the investigation.

"I saw the cyclists, injured cyclists".

On Wednesday, the London police announced that they had identified the suspect as Salih Khater, according to The New York Times.

Two people were taken to hospital, and one was still receiving treatment for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Khater, 29, may have been doing reconnaissance in Westminster when an ambulance pulled up behind him with its sirens blaring - spooking him into suddenly barreling his vehicle into the crowd at 7:37 a.m.

She said: "I was walking on the other side [of the road]". When he got to the scene, he staked out Westminster before smashing his vehicle.

The auto is said to have been driven at speed, and to have lifted off the ground when it hit the barriers.

Anti-terror police have shifted their investigation of the Westminster terror attack to the Midlands as they seek to piece together the attacker's movements and motive.

The Metropolitan Police said they are still working to clarify the movements of the suspect during the period of time he spent in the Tottenham Court Road area.

Sources said that the auto, a silver Ford Fiesta, was registered in Nottingham and had had several previous owners.

"I was told basically to move away, to run".

President Donald Trump tweeted about the incident too, slamming the "animals" behind it and demanding that it be met with "toughness and strength".

"It didn't look like an accident", he said. "It was a loud bang". Masood stabbed a police officer to death before being shot dead.

While paramedics have treated people for minor injuries, no one was fatally injured in the crash.
