Mike Pompeo Reportedly Joked About Killing Kim Jong Un To His Face

North Korea to hand over US troops remains ‘in next few days’ – report

The North is believed to have the remains of more than 200 American service members.

Officials say the timing of a ceremony is uncertain, but could be very soon.

More than 36,500 U.S. troops died in the 1950-1953 Korean War.

At the summit with Trump in Singapore, Kim pledged to work toward denuclearization in exchange for USA security guarantees.

On Tuesday, Kim and Xi were reported by North Korean media to have reached an understanding on the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula after discussing the outcome of the US-North Korea summit. As the poll was being conducted, Trump was embroiled in controversy over his administration's policy of separating children from their parents after border agents catch the families crossing into the US illegally.

The United States launched 33 investigative and recovery missions into North Korea between 1996 and 2005, but those efforts ended as the political situation between Washington and Pyongyang deteriorated.

Both Trump and Pompeo predicted that follow-on talks with North Korean officials would take place in the week after the 12 June summit.

This picture taken on June 19, 2018 and released by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency on June 20, 2018 shows North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, left, shaking hands with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Asked on Wednesday whether North Korea has done anything toward denuclearization since the summit, U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told reporters, "No, I'm not aware of that".

The United States has identified the test site that President Donald Trump said North Korea promised to destroy. "I expect they will talk about the path going forward and where priorities should lie".

However, it is, important to note that to this point North Korea has yet to comply-the agreement that Kim signed does not constitute a reasonable commitment toward dismantling their nuclear weapons program. The latter was the site of fierce fighting, and the remains of more than 2000 United States soldiers and Marines are believed to be missing there, USA military officials said at the time.

Denmark, who left the Defense Department in 2017 and is now director of the Asia Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, said he has yet to see any indication that Kim wants to pursue denuclearization or disarmament, and instead appears to be exclusively interested in engaging the world as a nuclear power.

Trump has repeatedly made clear his intention to avoid insulting Kim Jong Un in the days since the summit, most evident in his push to halt what he called "provocative" joint military exercises with South Korea.

The KCNA provided an extensive report on the summit, a day after Kim and Xi met in Beijing in their third meeting in three months.

Americans also have mixed feelings about Trump's announcement that he would end military exercises with South Korea while negotiations with North Korea are ongoing, with about 3 in 10 in favor and 3 in 10 opposed.

China also appears to be working hard not to be marginalized in the fast-paced nuclear diplomacy surrounding the Korean Peninsula by bringing the North closer to its side after years of chilled relations over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile provocations.
