Patrick's heralded career comes to close with Indy 500 crash

Australian Will Power will race in Team Penske's all-star lineup at the Indy Car Indianapolis 500

This will be Patrick's final career race as she will retire after this event.

Danica Patrick is not treating the 2018 Indianapolis 500 as a race to say goodbye.

She may now turn to her acting and voice-over career, which has seen numerous appearances as herself on talk shows, reality series and hosting gigs.

Patrick finished 35th in the Daytona 500 earlier this year after crashing out of the race on Lap 101 of 207.

"The greatest memory for me was my first Indy 500 in 2005, 13 years ago", Patrick told CBS News' Dana Jacobson.

"I'm not really sure what happened", a dejected Patrick said after coming out of the care center.

5 pictures that prove Princess Charlotte is already a superstar
A grinning Prince George has stolen the hearts of the nation in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's official wedding photographs. Meghan Markle's other godchildren, six- and seven-year-old Remi and Rylan Litt, were chosen for the bridal party, as well.

"I've had a lot of good fortune here and had some here this month".

Patrick said she was nervous before the start of the race, her eighth Indianapolis 500 but first in seven years. The Chevys were the fastest cars in the field and Team Penske had four strong chances to win. "I don't know if we have a tampering rule in IndyCar, but congrats Will". On Instagram, she confessed that the closing of her career was emotional for her. "I can't describe it".

"But I kind of said before I came here that I feel like if it's a complete disaster - "complete" like as in not in the ballpark at all, look silly - then people might remember that". I was wondering if I would ever win it. Many fans were thrilled by Power's win, particularly those in his native home of Australia. Patrick lost control as she entered the turn and her green GoDaddy Chevrolet hit the wall and rolled backward toward the infield. She posted a career-high third-place finish in the 2009 Indy 500, along with a career-high fifth in the final championship standings for the 2009 season.

Patrick was one of many big names to leave the track in frustration. Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan, Sebastien Bourdais and Danica Patrick were among those who crashed in single-car spins. "Now it's not just a hope, it's more of a reality that I've really got a shot at it". "I saw an opportunity, that's the time to go, but misjudged a little bit the tires".

From there, it was just a matter of navigating the lapped auto of Charlie Kimball, and counting down the final laps.
