Demos in Warsaw in support of sick United Kingdom boy Alfie Evans

Group to gather outside Wrexham courts to show support for Alfie Evans

During Alfie's stay at Alder Hey Hospital, tensions between hospital staff and the boy's parents were high, but Alfie's father said they would like doctors to give their son "dignity and comfort" and to make peace.

Tom Evans and Kate James, the parents of Alfie Evans, are meeting doctors on Thursday to discuss taking their son home.

Although Evans' degenerative neurological condition was not definitively diagnosed by the doctors, some experts believe the toddler has Mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome (MDS) - the same disease that affected Charlie Gard - an infant whose parents were embroiled in a similar legal battle past year. The courts have ruled his parents can not take him out of the country, and have allowed the hospital to keep Alfie in their "care" by force.

He was barred from going to Italy for treatment yesterday after another failed legal challenge as the Appeal Court in London rejected his family's plea to have Alfie airlifted from the Liverpool clinic.

Earlier today, Tom Evans said there had been no deterioration in Alfie's condition since he was taken off a ventilator and he was not in pain, accusing doctors of misdiagnosing his son.

Evans said that if he was not allowed to take Alfie home, he would resume his fight in court.

"We submit there is a likelihood of Alfie having some pleasure in life", he said.

Alfie's mother, Kate James, shared a video Wednesday on Facebook after the dismissal of the appeal.

Evans flew to Rome April 18 and begged Pope Francis to help get his son "asylum" in Italy. "He's fighting", Evans told ITV television.

In a seeming reversal from previous statements, Evans also thanked the staff of Alder Hey Children's Hospital "every level for their dignity and professionalism during what must be an incredibly hard time for them too", and requested that their privacy be respected, as well. Further, U.K. law allows doctors to override parents' wishes in regards to medical care if it's in the child's "best interests".

He said did not realize his boss had an opioid addiction until he passed out on a plane a week before he died . The "majority" of evidence from the investigation into Prince's death has been released to the public.

McFarlane, the judge, said Tom Evans had attempted to bring a private prosecution for conspiracy to murder against three of Alfie's doctors.

United Kingdom judges not only signed off on the decision to remove Alfie's ventilator, but they repeatedly refused to allow the family to leave and pursue care overseas.

But the archbishop added: "I am very aware of the compassion which is characteristically shown by the Italian people to those in need, and in this case Alfie".

Even the Pope weighed in asking the United Kingdom justices to allow Alfie to come to Italy.

The parents' efforts to move their child received support from around the world, including from Pope Francis, who tweeted on Monday: "I renew my appeal that the suffering of his parents may be heard and that their desire to seek new forms of treatment may be granted".

"His courageous little body has proved again that the miracle of life can be stronger than death", the president wrote on Twitter.

Two days ago, Alfie's life support was withdrawn, against the fervent objections of his parents.

Italy has a military plane on standby to transport Alfie to Rome if the courts allow it. Alfie has also been granted Italian citizenship to facilitate his arrival and transport.

Police on Wednesday issued a warning to supporters of the parents - many of whom have protested outside Alder Hey hospital - that the "unprecedented personal abuse" experienced by medical staff would not be tolerated.

He said the family "are now saying that's it, we want privacy and they are accepting now that Alfie will die".
