Police responding to active shooter at YouTube offices near San Francisco

A woman opened fire at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Calif. Tuesday, wounding at least four people before shooting and killing herself, police said.

Police in San Bruno warned people in a Twitter message to stay away from the address where YouTube, owned by Alphabet Inc's Google (GOOGL.O), is based. Spokesman Brent Andrew says a 36-year-old man is in critical condition, a 32-year-old woman is in serious condition and a 27-year-old woman is in fair condition.

Television footage showed police activity surrounding the campus at 901 Cherry Avenue.

Officers and federal agents swarmed the company's headquarters complex in the city of San Bruno around 1 p.m as multiple 911 reports came in reporting gunfire.

Police found a victim and a second person once getting inside, authorities said in a news conference, the second person was apparently the suspected shooter who had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. "I'm praying for the safety of everyone at YouTube headquarters".

Multiple patients were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, KTVU reported.

"My stomach sinks with yet another active shooter alert", the Democrat tweeted. "The fire alarm went off so we started to evacuate and then people (started) running saying there was a shooter".

Many of those in attendance just wanted something to be done. "It's gone through every student's head at this point", Donald said. It also focuses on providing funds for the use of metal detectors and "inserting mental health professionals" in schools.

Todd Sherman, a product manager at YouTube, described a chaotic scene as he evacuated his office. Now barricaded inside a room with coworkers.

Google, YouTube's parent company, told NBC news in a written statement that it was coordinating with local authorities.

"We headed towards the exit and then saw more people and someone said that there was a person with a gun".

Sherman said he initially thought the sound of people running was an "earthquake" before realising a shooter had stormed the building.

He posted: "I looked down and saw blood drips on the floor and stairs".

Employees can be seen walking out of the building with their hands up.

Several of the victims reportedly arrived at a nearby Carl's Jr. for help.
