Baton Rouge officers disciplined, video released in Alton Sterling case

Baton Rouge Police Officer Blane Salamoni has been fired for violating use-of-force polices in the Alton Sterling shooting, Chief Murphy Paul told reporters Friday evening while also releasing four videos, several of which graphically show Sterling as he lay dying.

In June 2017, Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome called on Paul's predecessor, Carl Dabadie Jr., to fire Salamoni.

The body camera footage, obtained by The Advocate (Baton Rouge), shows officers arriving at a convenience store in Baton Rouge where Sterling, who is black, was selling homemade CDs.

Warning: The videos below are graphic and disturbing to watch.

Paul said he hopes the announcement will remove the "cloud that has been over our community for far too long".

"These actions were not minor deviation from policy", Paul said during a news conference Friday. "This is over. This is the last investigation. When a police officer gives you direction, listen ... please, it's important".

Murphy fired Blane Salamoni, the officer who fired the shots that killed Sterling outside a Baton Rouge convenience store in 2016.

A Louisiana police chief has fired the white officer who fatally shot a black man during a struggle outside a convenience store almost two years ago, a killing that set off widespread protests. The officers said they feared for their lives when Sterling tried to pull a loaded gun out of his pocket. "Our examination will determine if any policies and procedures were violated by our officers during the incident", he said.

The two officers had separate disciplinary hearings Thursday night.

Paul noted that Lake answered all of the questions presented during the hearing.

Paul said he spent a great deal of time on the decision to discipline the officers. "Every officer knows in their heart that they may be called to a higher duty".

"When you see those other ... videos of Blane Salamoni killing Alton Sterling, you'll cry again", she said.

Salamoni's attorney, John McLindon, had said Tuesday that he expected the officer to be fired.

Salamoni's camera shows him yelling at Sterling with expletives to put his hands on a auto.

Sterling's death, and the decision not to prosecute the officers, has fueled African Americans' frustration with a legal system that fails to convict officers.

A source says one of the officers involved in the fatal shooting of a black man in Baton Rouge has been fired and the other will be suspended.

"Put your hands on the f***ing auto or I will blow your f***ing head off!"

At one point, the already-released cell phone videos show, someone - Salamoni, according to the state report - shouting, "He's got a gun!"

"Don't move or I'll shoot your f-- ass, bitch!" They then shoot him twice with a Taser before Sterling falls to the ground. Officer Lake helped wrestle Sterling to the ground, but Lake didn't fire his gun. Officer Howie Lake will be suspended for three days.

"He's going for the gun", Salamoni yells, according to the state report.

"Given the totality of the circumstances - that the officers had been fighting with Sterling and had attempted less-than-lethal methods of control; that they knew Sterling had a weapon; that Sterling had reportedly brandished a gun at another person; and that Sterling was much larger and stronger than either officer - the Department can not prove either that the shots were unconstitutional or that they were willful", the DOJ concluded.

"If you move, I swear to God", Salamoni tells Sterling.

When the officers get up, Sterling is lying on the ground outside the front door of the convenience store with a blood-soaked red shirt.
