Apple's Cook Has Pointed Advice for Facebook's Zuckerberg

Apple CEO Tim Cook

Cook suggested the social media site is taking advantage of its users. "The truth is, we could make a ton of money if we monetized our customer - if our customer was our product", he said in the interview. "We've never believed that these detailed profiles of people, that have incredibly deep personal information that is patched together from several sources, should exist", Cook said, adding that these profiles "can be abused against our democracy". "It's a civil liberty, and in something that is unique to America, this is like freedom of speech and freedom of the press and privacy is right up there for us".

"I think it's an invasion of privacy. However, I think we're beyond that", Cook continued.

Cook said in no uncertain terms that Facebook could not adequately monitor itself in terms of privacy: "I think the best regulation is no regulation, is self-regulation".

Apple CEO Tim Cook had some tough words for Facebook as it deals with a massive data scandal.

Whether you love or hate Apple, the company's business practices do seem to back up Cook's statements for the most part.

In a statement on Thursday, the Chinese Embassy in the United States also warned that the country is not afraid of a trade war. The tariffs are effective Friday. "We are buying more rapeseed meal, for example", said one of the sources.

"I'm not making fun of it!", replied Cook. It was given the information by an academic, who violated Facebook policies by sharing it. Playboy has joined the likes of Will Ferrell, Cher and Elon Musk in opting to remove its presence from Facebook.

Concerns over mass data collection by Facebook and Google have been voiced by the Apple CEO for years.

On Friday, another Silicon Valley CEO, Elon Musk, deleted the Facebook pages of two of his companies, Tesla and SpaceX. By Tuesday its stock had plunged 18% wiping out almost $80 billion in market value, and as a result $14 billion has been shaved off Zuckerberg's personal fortune.

Responding to challenges from his Twitter followers, Musk deleted the Facebook accounts of all his companies.
