European Union and Turkey summit produces commitment to keep talking

The PKK - which is considered an illegal terrorist movement by the Ankara government - has been conducting an insurgency against Turkey since 1984.

But according to Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency, they have been charged with "attempted military espionage" by prosecutors as well as entering a forbidden military zone.

Mr Erdogan also said that Turkey would do "what is necessary" if the Iraqi operation in Sinjar failed. This is also important in view of our shared objective for the successful reunification of Cyprus for the benefit of both populations on the island, for Turkey, the European Union and for EU-Turkey relations. "We agreed that we should continue our dialogue in hard circumstances".

"There is no question that we must act completely like them", added Mr Erdogan, who earlier this week met European Union chiefs for a crunch summit in Bulgaria. The goal of the meeting was to mend relations between Turkey and the EU.

Juncker insisted that he was not in favour of stopping negotiations with Turkey but urged Ankara to improve relations with member states like Cyprus and Greece.

"We now expect strong support [from the EU] on sensitive issues such as the fight against terrorism instead of rambling and unjust criticism", Mr Erdogan said.

Banks Rejoice as Fed Hikes Rate, Raises Economic Outlook
Policymakers were largely split on Wednesday as to whether a total of three or four rate hikes would be needed this year. This year's estimated U.S. economic growth was revised up to 2.7 per cent from an earlier forecast of 2.5 per cent.

"We are, of course, deeply concerned about what's happening in Afrin".

"We reconfirm our readiness to keep up the dialogue and conversation and work together to overcome current difficulties with a view to unleashing the potential of our partnership", Tusk said.

The EU accounts for about half of Turkish exports.

"It would be a mistake for a Europe that claims to be a global power to keep Turkey outside of expansion policies", Erdogan said.

Two Czech nationals were sentenced last year to six years and three months behind bars in Turkey on charges of fighting for the YPG in Syria.

Turkey is gearing up to expand its military operations against Kurdish forces eastwards in northern Syria, a move that would take it closer to potential conflict with the US.
