SPDR Dow Jones REIT ETF (RWR) Rises 0.79% for Jan 16

Wall Street stocks are lower into the close, with the Dow Jones Industrial Index down 86 points at 26,028.

"The global economy and global markets are in sync for the first time in a meaningful way since the Great Recession". Sceptics have dubbed the latest phase of the bull market a "melt-up", with USA shares continuing to rise despite looking overpriced by traditional yardsticks, and warn it could be a last hurrah before a downward correction or crash.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed above 26,000 points for the first time on Wednesday. The day's gains were broad, with all 11 of the S&P 500's primary sectors ending higher, although technology shares were the biggest gainers of the day, up 1.5%.

SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (NYSEARCA DIA) traded up $1.25 during midday trading on Tuesday, hitting $259.16.

Optimism over corporate earnings fueled the bullish sentiment as the reporting season started with JPMorgan Chase & Co. topping expectations and forecasting further gains thanks to cuts to the corporate tax rate. Since President Donald Trump took office a year ago, the principal U.S. stock indexes have gained by leaps and bounds, hitting a record string of records.

General Motors rose 2 percent after the company said it expected earnings in 2018 to be largely flat, compared with 2017, but that profits should pick up pace in 2019.

The large-cap S&P 500 Index (NYSEARCA:SPY) advanced 0.9% to 2,802.56, which was also a record high.

Since then, Wall Street analysts have been boosting their 2018 earnings forecasts for USA companies at the quickest pace in a decade, providing a fresh tailwind for a market that some skeptics say is pricey.

The S&P 500 shed 4.27 at 2,798 and the Nasdaq lots 1.08 at 7,297. According to the Bank of America Merill Lynch this is a record and a "blockbuster". Bitcoin futures on the Cboe Futures Exchange were up 1.67 percent at $11,240. The euro weakened to $1.2237 from $1.2258. Shares fell 0.2 percent.

In other news, Director Mark Edward Thompson sold 1,000,000 shares of the business's stock in a transaction that occurred on Tuesday, November 7th.

CURRENCIES: The dollar rose to 111.18 yen from 110.77 yen late Wednesday in Asia.

Benchmark U.S. crude slipped 35 cents to $63.95 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
