Some Canadian media organizations ready to cope with Facebook's changes to feeds

News Feed FYI: Bringing People Closer Together | Facebook Newsroom

Facebook has announced that it will be making dramatic changes to its News Feed, specifically how user content will be showing up in the future.

If content shared on Facebook is now less likely to appear organically on the Newsfeed, will we start to see publishers coughing up and paying for more of their content to be promoted to Facebook users? The coming changes to Facebook's news feed will require publishers to cross-pollinate their Facebook followers in other channels where content distribution is more complementary to their publishing goals.

The changes were announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg (via a personal status update, fittingly) with a follow-up blog post by Facebook's head of news feed Adam Mosseri. If Mark Zuckerberg is truly anxious about his legacy and that of Facebook, casting legitimate news publishers and businesses into the abyss will only further tarnish an image that is already deeply damaged.

According to PR and social media expert Catriona Pollard, the changes to Facebook's news feed are part of a wider trend sweeping the industry.

"But I also expect the time you do spend on Facebook will be more valuable", he added.

First, Facebook had already proved it isn't capable of splitting real news from fake propaganda, though at least it says it's working on it. Though Lyons said that the firm would use alternative methods to classify such news, such as pointing users toward reliable publications that carry a view with more veracity, this comes across as an admission that Facebook isn't really capable of vetting news, and that it's a fool's errand for it to even try to do so. During hearings in the fall, Facebook told Congress that agents working for a Kremlin-linked company had disseminated content that reached an estimated 126 million users in the United States in 2016.

Fionnuala Lawes expressed concerns over the latest news and how it will affect people like her who run pages, and questioned how charities specifically will be affected.

Bitcoin Rises as Ripple's Attract Fades for Manic Crypto Merchants
In 2017, XRP soared 35,000 per cent, surpassing bitcoin's surge of around 1,500 per cent. Just as bitcoin, the ripple has had some volatility in the past one month.

Critics see the changes in Facebook more of a commercial compulsion for the company. "And that's clearly not a world Zuckerberg wants to live in".

"While we are a dominant news publisher on Facebook, we also employ strategies for diverse social media referral so as not to be dependent on any one source", said Ron Waksman, vice president of digital and editorial standards and practices for Global News and Corus Radio.

If you're a high quality content publisher that has carved out a nice niche for yourself, maybe you will find it easier to continue to drive traffic from Facebook.

"Facebook is tailor-made for abuse by bad actors, and unless the company takes immediate action, we should expect a lot more of it, including interference in upcoming elections", he writes. Content from businesses, brands and media will be featured less prominently.

The founder of Facebook has no doubt and is ready to revolutionize his invention through an algorithm update.

Got that, Facebook users? The company says it will predict which posts will encourage you to interact with your friends and give these posts more weight in ranking on your feed.

This is as simple as asking them to comment or like if they like it your content. Ziegler was hoping McNamee, as an experienced investor and disinterested party, could advise a young Mark Zuckerberg about whether to sell Facebook.
