Pakistan fires back at Trump: US has given nothing but 'invective & mistrust'

US weighs withholding $255m in aid to Pakistan

In an announcement which many saw it coming, Trump began the New Year with a stinging attack on Pakistan, saying it would get no more USA aid as it was harbouring terrorists the U.S. was fighting in Afghanistan.

"They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. They overlook cross-border safe havens of terrorists who murder Pakistanis", the Pakistan Defence Ministry said in a tweet.

Pakistan will "let the world know the ... difference between facts and fiction", Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif tweeted, promising to respond to Trump "shortly".

The Trump administration had on December 30 said that it was considering to withhold $255 million aid to Pakistan.

And according to The Hill, Khurram Dastgir Khan, the Minister of Defense for Pakistan, defended his country, explaining the nation of almost 210 million mostly Muslim people has actually given America a great deal, and in return America has given them "nothing but invective & mistrust".

It said US officials had sought but been denied access to a member of the Taliban-linked Haqqani network captured in Pakistan who potentially could provide information about at least one American hostage.

Western Wall metro stop to be named for Trump
Other countries also reportedly in talks to move their embassies are South America's Paraguay and the west African nation of Togo. In May, Trump became the first US president to visit the Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall, during his term in office.

US President Donald Trump on Monday made what can be considered a formal announcement that his country was stopping any and all financial aid to Pakistan.

A State Department official said Pakistan's actions will ultimately determine the course of "security assistance in the future". "Pak as anti-terror ally has given free to U.S.: land & air communication, military bases & intel cooperation that decimated Al-Qaeda over last 16yrs, but they have given us nothing but invective & mistrust".

Vice President Mike Pence reinforced that message in a visit to Afghanistan just before Christmas, telling cheering American troops that "President Trump has put Pakistan on notice".

Lawmaker Hina Butt said Trump's criticism was "baseless".

"You're either with the USA, or against us". "It isn't the only step by any means, but it could be the right one", she said. Trump's son Donald Trump Jr tweeted yesterday.
