Taco Bell plans to open 300+ stores without drive-thrus

Taco Bell Is Ditching Drive-Thrus and Adding Booze

The brand is planning to open several "cantinas" without that fast food flair by 2022 in big cities like New York, Nashville and Detroit over the next few years, focusing on urban areas. Beer, wine, sangria and "Twisted Freezes" are part of the plan.

Who knew? Around 55 to 70 percent of Taco Bell's revenue comes from orders purchased at the chain's drive-thru windows.

The company will build new "Cantina style" locations throughout the country where alcohol will be offered.

"No drive-thrus will be removed from existing locations", a Taco Bell spokesman confirmed Tuesday.

Taco Bell will reportedly open between 300 and 350 locations in big cities like Detroit, Pittsburgh, Nashville and NY. The fast-food restaurant is a national chain specializing in Mexican cuisine.

"One of the cool things happening in America right now is the revitalization of urban areas, and we're seeing millennials moving into downtown areas", said Mike Grams, Taco Bell's COO. In its latest plan, it intends to do away with drive-thrus and serve alcohol in big-city locales.

Taco Bell now operates more than 7,000 restaurants worldwide and 5,604 in the U.S.
