Protect yourself from the Equifax security breach

Equifax data breach results in C-Level resignations

The company also confirmed that Mandiant, the threat intelligence arm of the cyber firm FireEye, has been brought on to help investigate the breach.

Equifax (EFX.N) disclosed on Tuesday that its recent high-profile data breach impacted approximately 100,000 Canadians.

"The Equifax breach has left millions of New Yorkers vulnerable to identity theft and major financial issues", said Attorney General Schneiderman.

"Earlier this year, during the 2016 tax season, Equifax experienced a security incident involving a payroll-related service". If a class-action lawsuit is approved, it would be one of the largest class-action suits, by number of affected customers, in history.

It may also bear on the investigation into unusual stock sales by several Equifax executives in the days following the discovery of the May incident. That discovery was on July 29 but not unveiled to the public until September 7. "The two events are not related".

Appalachian Power sending hundreds to Florida, Georgia
Locations without power have been flagged to the state to help utilities prioritize their work, the group said in a statement. Eric Silagy, the CEO of Florida Power & Light, said Irma caused the most widespread damage in the company's history.

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) State Attorney General Marty Jackley is offering advice to tens of thousands of South Dakotans who may be at risk in the massive Equifax data breach.

Lyndsey Wasser says that Canada's privacy watchdog cannot hand down fines but can recommend the company make changes and sign an agreement urging them to comply.

Equifax is already facing criticism for the long delay between the May breach and its revelation to consumers that their data had been stolen, which came four months later.

The revelation of a March breach will complicate EFX's efforts to explain a series of unusual stock sales by company executives, and could increase their vulnerability to charges of insider trading. They have also sought information about the Equifax executives who sold almost $1.8m (£1.36m) in stock just days after the firm discovered the hack, but weeks before it was made public. Scammers who get ahold of the data could use it at any time - and with 143 million to choose from, they may be patient. The company late Friday announced the immediate retirement of David Webb, its chief information officer, and Susan Mauldin, its head security officer.
