Trump says Lindsey Graham 'lied' about Trump's Charlottesville comments. Did he?

The US president also took aim at two fellow Republican senators, Lindsey Graham of SC and Jeff Flake of Arizona.

The president dubbed Graham's statement "Such a disgusting lie".

"Through his statements yesterday, President Trump took a step backward by again suggesting there is moral equivalency between the white supremacist neo-Nazis and KKK members who attended the Charlottesville rally and people like Ms. Heyer. Well done", the SC lawmaker said Thursday morning, referring to Heather Heyer, the 32-year-old woman who was killed in a auto attack on Saturday.

"I think there is blame on both sides", the president said at an August 15, 2017, press conference at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Trump has been on the defensive in the past several days following his comments Saturday that blamed "both sides" for the chaos that erupted in the streets of the Virginia town.

Trump, of course, took to Twitter this morning to attack Graham for his statement.

Reacting to Trump's tweets, Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough noted that both Graham and Flake had stuck their necks out for the president recently when they voted in favor of a "horrid" Republican health care plan that Trump desperately wanted to see passed.

After Trump's statements about Charlottesville, Heyer's mother, Susan Bro, thanked Trump for his "words of comfort" about her daughter.

Man Who Mowed Down Crowd (Killing One) in Charlottesville Charged with Murder
President Donald Trump faced bipartisan criticism after suggesting "both sides" were to blame for the violence in Charlottesville. The organizer of the white nationalist rally that drew the large crowd of counter-protesters blamed law enforcement.

Although Trump's press conference was watched and reported on by countless news outlets, he then claimed that the media is not reporting exactly what he said.

"I'm not putting anybody on a moral plane", Trump said during a testy Q&A with reporters in the lobby of his Manhattan tower.

"Your tweet honoring Miss Heyer was very nice and appropriate".

"For the sake of our Nation - as our President - please fix this", he continued.

Graham also said that many Republicans reject the idea that the party has become a "welcome mat" for David Duke, former leader of the KKK, and other white supremacists and seek to return it to the "party of Lincoln".

It's not enough that Donald Trump be officially censured for saying neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan do not deserve full blame for a deadly white supremacist rally. "History is watching us all".

The following day, August 17, 2017, Trump took to Twitter to dismiss Graham's statement as "such a disgusting lie".
