China Urges India To Stop Provocations

Pentagon urges talks on Doklam standoff

Wu Qian, the spokesperson for the Chinese Defence Ministry has said that in order to resolve the issue peacefully China would want India to immediately withdraw frontier defence personnel from across the border.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said last week that India's border guards, in responding to Bhutan's call for help, had "illegally trespassed the boundary into Chinese territory" when they confronted the Chinese army construction team.

The history of the Chinese Army in the past 90 years has demonstrated its increasing capacities and unshakable determination to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he said. "It is easier to shake a mountain than to shake the PLA", Qian said.

Wu has reiterated Chinese stand on Doklam impasse when he urged India to withdraw its troop from the flashpoint area at the tri-junction near Bhutan. "We strongly urge India to take practical steps to correct its mistake, cease provocations and meet China halfway in jointly safeguarding the border region's peace and tranquillity".

"The determination and the willingness and the resolve of China to defend its sovereignty is indomitable, and it will safeguard its sovereignty and security interests at whatever cost", he added.

Asked whether India and China would hold bilateral talks, Lu said, "On bilateral meetings, I do not have the relevant information right now".

"The crossing of the mutually recognized worldwide border by India is a serious violation of China's territory and runs against global law", he said.

Both India and China reportedly bolstered their troops in the area in June, with each side adding about 3,000 soldiers, the Times of India said at that time.

Amid the Sikkim stand-off, China Monday hinted that a bilateral meeting between state councillor Yang Jiechi and national security adviser Ajit Doval could take place on the sidelines of a BRICS NSAs' meet here this week.

The ongoing Doklam stand-off is considered to be the worst conflict between China and India since 1962, when a war broke out over the disputed Himalayan border. "Our diplomatic channel is unimpeded and the withdrawal of the Indian border troops is the precondition for any meaningful dialogue and the communication between the two sides", Lu said.
