'Iran can supply food to 10 states like Qatar'

The minister, Adel al-Jubeir, said Qatar should respond to demands to halt its support for "extremism and terrorism" which, he said, were being made by the whole world and not just Gulf states.

The High Commissioner had voiced, on Wednesday, concern over the act, saying that the Qatar diplomatic crisis would impact on human rights.

Mr Faki warned that if the rift is allowed to escalate further, it could have adverse political, security and humanitarian implications for the Gulf states, Africa and worldwide peace and security. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt published a list of 59 people and 12 groups with links to Qatar late on Thursday 8th June, alleging that they have ties to "terrorism".

Riyadh, the UAE, Egypt and others severed diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar nearly two weeks ago, accusing Doha of supporting groups, including some backed by Iran, "that aim to destabilise the region".

"During my recent trip to the Middle East I stated that there can no longer be any funding of Radical Ideology".

The move was, at surface level, taken with shock considering the active role that the Qatari military played in Saudi Arabia's coalition intervening in the Yemeni Civil War. The U.S. previously turned against Pakistan following revelations that Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden had been hiding in a compound in Abbottabad. Qatar hosts the vitally important Al Udeid airbase, where some 10,000 USA troops reside.

Though Trump has ranted against Qatar, there is some truth in the belief in Qatar that America is too deeply involved to abandon the tiny nation.

It also solidifies the assumption that President Trump and the Pentagon will retain US Central Command in Qatar for the foreseeable future, and is seen as a symbolic decline of offers from the Emirates for a transfer in position.

Qatar's sudden alienation has raised concerns for Pakistan, which like Saudi Arabi, is a US ally frequently accused of funding terrorism. "This led to the decision of the ban, to press Doha to back down from such practices, which negatively affect the people of Qatar in the first place", he said.

A Qatari official accused Saudi Arabia and its allies Friday of imposing a "siege" on his country with sanctions he said were having a more devastating effect than the Berlin Wall.

As diplomatic efforts continued, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a three-way call with French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and the Qatar emir.

"The time had come to call on Qatar to end its funding - they have to end that funding - and its extremist ideology in terms of funding", he added. "It is normal. We are in the stage where we want to finalize this deal". Qatar has also launched new shipping routes via Oman to boost its supplies from other sources.

Tillerson's efforts have been hindered by mixed messages coming out of the administration.
