White House tries to regroup, but Trump isn't helping

Trump has decided that media inquires would best be handled by his outside lawyer in NY instead of a team inside the White House, the magazine reported late Tuesday.

The National Archives and Records Administration asked the White House to save all of the President's tweets, even those deleted, to be part of their records.

President Donald Trump will not assert executive privilege to block fired FBI Director James Comey from testifying on Capitol Hill, the White House said Monday, setting the stage for a dramatic public airing of the former top law enforcement official's dealings with the commander in chief.

Recall that Trump fired Comey about three weeks ago in a move which according to him was to restore public trust. The 30-second spot is slated to run digitally on Wednesday and appear the next day on CNN and Fox News. Since then, Trump and Comey allies have traded competing narratives about their interactions.

"But the president is expected to be tweeting on Thursday in response to Comey, not to stay quiet during the testimony", he added.

President Trump on Tuesday offered a cryptic message for fired FBI Director James Comey ahead of his highly anticipated testimony before Congress. Days after Comey's firing, the Justice Department appointed a special counsel, former FBI Director Robert Mueller, to oversee the federal investigation. Trump has strongly denied ever asking Comey such a question. As director, Comey had been investigating allegations of ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

The White House had floated the idea that Trump could invoke executive privilege, to protect the confidentiality of presidential discussions.

"The Committee looks forward to receiving testimony from the former Director on his role in the development of the Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections, and I am hopeful that he will clarify for the American people recent events that have been broadly reported in the media", Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr, R-North Carolina, said in a statement. Or might the White House's resolve erode given the intense attention Comey's appearance will receive?
