Apple WWDC showcases HomePod smart speaker and new operating system

It is also being touted as the biggest software release ever for iPad.

Apple has updated Maps by adding indoor maps for major airports and shopping centers around the world as well as introducing lane guidance to avoid missing a turn or exit.

Leading up to WWDC, the leading rumor was that Apple was set to compete with Amazon and Google for a new in-home voice assistant.

Created to work with an Apple Music subscription for access to over 40 million songs, "HomePod" provides deep knowledge of personal music preferences and tastes and helps users discover new music. "OneDrive integration with the Files app will make it easier for you to access your content from any Apple device and will provide a better file management experience on iOS for your personal and work OneDrive and SharePoint sites".

Apple unveiled several new devices at WWDC 2017, one of which was an update in specs to the iPad Pro 12.9, while another was a slightly redesigned and upgraded successor to the iPad Pro 9.7. It has since been discontinued from Apple, though it can still be bought on other sites, such as Amazon, for around £535.

The cylindrical, mesh covered speaker will contain a seven-tweeter array, high-excursion subwoofer, A8 Chip, and six-microphone array so that it can auto-calibrate sound to the room and hear you from a distance away. Furthermore, two separate HomePods will automatically sync meaning that this is a smart, flexible and intuitive system. This improves the overall touch functionality of the device. From Deutsche Bank's perspective, the key incremental announcements were the smart speaker, the availability of peer-to-peer payments on Apple Pay, and the introduction of a workstation version of the Mac. And it would mark an effort by Apple to catch up with Amazon (AMZN) and Google (GOOG).

YouGov's analysis puts the Tories on 310 seats, down from the 330 they went into the election with, and 16 short of a majority. He added, though, that the company's approach had shown "high accuracy" at projecting state-level results in the USA election.

The trend-setting company also is putting new twists on existing products as it delves deeper into virtual reality and a form of artificial intelligence called machine learning.

It wouldn't be the first time that Apple hopped on the bandwagon of a technology product popularized by a competitor. The company has committed to marketing itself on these grounds.

Nonetheless, regardless of the particular qualities of this system, one thorny issue undoubtedly remains. Software updates are also expected for Apple's smartwatch and TV box for streaming online video.

Information that is transmitted to Apple's servers will be encrypted and sent using an anonymous Siri identifier. Little information was given on how Apple will store or protect data gleaned by the system, but the corporation has a relatively clean record in this area.

Apple revealed iOS 11 at their Worldwide Developer Conference yesterday, the new iPhone and iPad OS comes with a wide range of new features. The Californian corporation will offer the HomePod in white and space grey, with orders beginning in December ahead of the critical Christmas marketplace.
