The company said its net income rose to $5.43 billion, or $7.73 per share, from $4.21 billion, or $6.02 per share, a year earlier.

Meanwhile, Alphabet's net profit amounted to $5.42bn, showing a huge 29pc gain on the same time previous year. This change resulted in a modest increase in paid clicks and a decrease in cost-per-click.
