Fresno gunman gave police blow-by-blow of shootings of 3 men

Fresno shooting Rampage started with slaying last week police say

During the arrest, Muhammad shouted "Allahu akbar", or "God is great", but Dyer said the shootings had "nothing to do with terrorism in spite of the statement he made" and were based exclusively on race.

Valencia said that Randalls would not want the circumstances of his death to rule the narrative of his life, or to be used as "ignition for any other hateful acts". Police said he dumped his shell casings in a nearby alley before walking up to Mark Gassett, 37, on the sidewalk on N. Fulton near Nevada, and shot him in the chest. Victim later identified as David Jackson.

Authorities say 39-year-old Muhammad, who is black, was motivated by racial hatred, seeking to kill as many white people as he could.

Chief Dyer told reporters that it's "very rare" for a homicide suspect to cooperate with investigators in recounting the killings and he believes Muhammad was "proud" of what he did.

Dyer said he doesn't think the suspect's desire to kill stemmed from religious views, but rather racist views.

"These were unprovoked attacks", Fresno police Chief Jerry Dyer said. Fresno Police chief Jerry Dyer reviews notes on the triple fatal shooting before addressing the media Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in Fresno, Calif. "He said he did not like white men and said white people were responsible for keeping black people down", Dyer said.

Now, police are saying the killings were completely random and the gunman wanted to kill "as many white people as possible".

The suspect told his family there was a war going on between blacks and whites in America.

Muhammad hid out in a ravine and practiced voodoo rituals after the motel slaying.

"He said he is Muslim, but prays to seven different gods", the police chief said.

Muhammad led investigators through the crime scene at the motel as well as the locations from yesterday's shootings, Dyer said.

"That was going to be his target, and he caught up with him and he fired two rounds into this individual", Dyer said. Muhammad had gone there to meet a woman, and he argued with security who asked him to leave. Dyer said Muhammad confessed to having shot Williams "because he felt that Williams had disrespected him".

The suspect then fled and hid on a gas station roof. Dyer says he watched detectives investigate, then left and hid by a dumpster.

Francine Williams said Wednesday that she was in shock but also at peace because she got to tell her son how much she loved him and how proud he made her a few days before his death.

The Fresno Bee (http://bit.ly/2oPfESB ) reports that an affidavit shows 53-year-old Lisa Renee Martin was arrested after the April 13 killing of security guard Carl Williams. He was allowed to speak to his mother and told her not to worry about him because his "magic" is strong. Carl Williams told her he loved her, too.

Two Latina women and a child also crossed paths with Muhammad, who pointed the gun at them as they sat in their vehicle trying to flee, but he did not shoot.

From there, police said Muhammad shot at two women in a auto but stopped shooting once he saw they were Hispanic.

Muhammad had run afoul of Fresno police before.

Police say the shooter was candid in explaining the crimes that began Thursday night, when he killed another white man, a motel security guard, and culminated Tuesday, when he fired 16 rounds in less than two minutes and killed the three men on the same block.

Kori Ali Muhammad is in custody and is expected to be charged with four counts of murder. Wright says he expects the arraignment will be scheduled for Friday.

Stalking the streets armed with a.357 calibre revolver, the "black soldier" allegedly murdered three men in cold blood as he reportedly howled "Allahu akbar".

That's when Muhammad decided he wanted to "kill as many white males as possible" before being arrested, Dyer said.

When he came upon a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. utility truck, he passed over the Hispanic driver and targeted Randalls, who was in the passenger seat. Zackary Randalls, 34, died.

Wearing an LA Dodgers baseball cap in honor of Randalls, a longtime Dodgers fan, Valencia described his friend as "the best", a man who "loved his two kids with everything that he had".
