Trump has a two-word message for North Korean dictator Kim Jong

The warning in the interview came after US Vice-President Mike Pence arrived in South Korean and warned North Korea that his own country's "era of strategic patience" with Pyongyang was over.

This morning he warned Kim Jong-un not to "test the resolve" of the President and insisted any use of nuclear weapons by the secretive state would be met with "an overwhelming and effective response". -South Korean military exercises being staged now are the largest-ever "aggressive war drill" aimed at his country, formally the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

On Sunday, Pence discussed that day's missile test, saying the "provocation" was a reminder of the dangers posed by North Korea in the region. "It has been created risky situation in which the thermonuclear war may break out at any moment on the peninsula and pose a serious threat to the world's peace and security, to say nothing of those of northeast Asia".

Mr Pence called on China, which has always been considered North Korea only significant strategic ally, to use its "extraordinary levers" to persuade the isolationist state to give up its nuclear arms.

Amid rising tensions with North Korea, Pence pointed to recent high-profile US military actions in Syria and Afghanistan as evidence of the Trump administration's "strength and resolve".

The visit came after a huge military parade Saturday during which North Korea showcased apparent intercontinental ballistic missiles, and as a United States carrier group converges on the Korean peninsula.

Officials say the US administration is focusing on tougher economic sanctions, possibly including an oil embargo, a global ban on North Korea's airline, intercepting cargo ships and punishing Chinese banks doing business with Pyongyang.

He said "we need to apply pressure on North Korea so they seriously respond to a dialogue" with the worldwide community.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said: "We do not accept the reckless nuclear missile actions of Pyongyang that breach United Nations resolutions, but that does not mean that you can break global law".

Trump acknowledged on Sunday that the softer line he has taken on China's management of its currency was linked to its help on North Korea. Mr Pence declared that the era of USA "strategic patience" in dealing with the North was over, after more than two decades.

"North Korea would do well not to test his resolve or the strength of the armed forces of the United States in this region", Pence said.

Speaking in Seoul next to South Korea's acting president Hwang Kyo-ahn, Pence warned North Korea to end its nuclear program and referred to the bombings in Syria and Afghanistan as proof of US resolve. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump expressed hope that the conflict would be resolved without military action.

Mr Pence said he and Mr Trump "have great confidence that China will properly deal with North Korea". I think you're not going to see him telegraphing how he's going to respond to any military or other situation going forward.

The vice president earlier visited a military installation near the DMZ, Camp Bonifas, for a briefing with military leaders at the joint U.S. "We hope to achieve this objective through peaceable means".

Pence will be tasked with explaining the policy in meetings with leaders in South Korea and Japan during the trip, which will also include stops in Indonesia and Australia. "In exchange, we request that Mike Pence stop giving us that really mean look".

"My father served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army".
