North Korea says Syria airstrikes prove its nukes justified

The National Security Council has told President Trump his options for dealing with North Korea's nuclear threats include assassinating its dictator, Kim Jong-un, and placing United States nukes in South Korea, according to a new report.

A US Navy strike group will reportedly move toward the western Pacific Ocean near the Korean peninsula as concerns grow about North Korea's advancing weapons programme.

"We will bolster up in every way our capability for self-defense to cope with the USA evermore reckless moves for a war and defend ourselves with our own force", it said.

US aircraft carrier the USS Carl Vinson has been diverted to the Western Pacific instead of sailing from Singapore to Australia, the navy said, amid escalated tensions on the Korean peninsula over North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

He said that Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed at their summit in Florida last week that Pyongyang's "provocative behavior" developing nuclear weapons was unacceptable.

"The number one threat in the region continues to be North Korea, due to its reckless, irresponsible, and destabilizing program of missile tests and pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability".

Members of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, known locally as Chongryon, are also prohibited from re-entering Japan if they leave the country to visit North Korea.

Returning nuclear weapons to South Korea, which were removed 25 years ago, would be the first nuclear deployment since the Cold War ended.

"We assess that they were relatively successful talks that laid the groundwork for cooperation between the two leaders and the development of the U.S". Pyongyang appeared to up the ante just before the meeting began by test-launching a ballistic missile.

Abe conveyed to his USA counterpart Japan's support for "the US resolve to fulfill its responsibility to prevent the proliferation and use of chemical weapons", according to a Japanese official.

Tensions have been higher than usual because the annual war games between the USA and South Korean militaries are underway.

The US attack sidestepped worldwide law but there is precedent for that, and a strong moral case for acting to deter the use of chemical weapons.

A combination of file photos show U.S. President Donald Trump (L) in Washington March 1, 2017 and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo November 18, 2014. "I think that in North Korea, it's an enormous unknown".

The options would be considered if China doesn't successfully put more pressure on North Korea.

Kim Jong-un has said North Korea is on the "brink of war" with America in response to growing tensions between the two countries. And with his back against the wall, he may well cling tighter to his wet dreams of North Korea becoming a nuclear power.

There was little doubt the missile strikes would be seen in North Korea as a message.

Jia Qingguo, a professor of International Relations at Beijing University, said the North's nuclear arsenal and highly sensitive geopolitical position meant the fallout of any military action could be catastrophic.
