Why epic Liverpool draw is proudest day of Guardiola's career

WILLY CABALLERO insists he fully understood why boss Pep Guardiola was so happy with Manchester City's draw with Liverpool.

City, in third place, stayed a point ahead of the Merseysiders with a game in hand thanks to Sergio Aguero's equalising goal.

Aguero was on target, equalising with a close-range finish from Kevin De Bruyne's low right-wing cross to cancel out James Milner's penalty, but he wasted three opportunities to score the victor in the closing minutes at the Etihad Stadium.

City equalised through Sergio Aguero after 69 minutes who then twice missed the target when well placed in the closing moments of an end-to-end clash.

That came after several other near misses, including Kevin De Bruyne hitting the post, and a number of controversially-rejected penalty appeals at each end.

The were chances at both ends to win the game and Kevin De Bruyne almost put Pep Guardiola's side in front when he struck the frame of the goal with 15 minutes left to play.

"It is one of the days I am proud of the most", an animated Guardiola said. "After our defeat in the Champions League, for two days we were so, so sad and in the training sessions we didn't talk too much".

"You can lose games but when you look back on the games you lose you must be, "Okay we lost but we did everything to win it".

Lawsuits Against Saudi Arabia Flow Into Federal Court Under 2016 Law
Earlier attempts to hold Saudi Arabia responsible for the attacks, which killed 2,996 people, have failed. The Senate ultimately overrode Obama's veto last September in an overwhelming 97-1 vote.

It follows an incident "in or around the 50th minute" of the 1-1 draw, when referee Michael Oliver gave the Reds a penalty, penalising Gael Clichy for a raised boot on Roberto Firmino.

"To get a point at Manchester City for each team in the world is absolutely OK", said the Liverpool manager.

Aguero created a chance for De Bruyne on 75 minutes after the Argentine striker combined with Leroy Sane before being denied a shot on goal, but the ball to the Belgian, who fired against the right post.

A rain-slicked pitch and two attack-minded teams made for a furious first half at the Etihad Stadium, characterised by City possession and Liverpool counter-attacks.

"It is another victory, we keep our position in second and we are happy".

"There were a few situations where we couldn't defend their quality".

20 - Liverpool have won 20 points in 10 games vs the top 6 teams this season, but just 19 points in 10 games vs the bottom six clubs.

Guardiola was delighted with the response of his players after the disappointment of their Champions League last-16 exit following a 3-1 loss at Monaco on Wednesday.
