Lawsuits Against Saudi Arabia Flow Into Federal Court Under 2016 Law

The suit also says Saudi royals turned a blind eye regarding money they donated to certain "charities", which was really being shifted to al-Qaeda.

The suit follows a congressional override of then-President Barack Obama's veto in September, which enacted a law allowing an exception to the legal principle of sovereign immunity in cases of terrorism on U.S. soil.

Earlier attempts to hold Saudi Arabia responsible for the attacks, which killed 2,996 people, have failed.

Families of 850 victims who died on 9/11 and 1,500 people injured that day are suing the Saudi government, accusing it of providing material and financial assistance to al Qaeda for years leading up to the worst terrorist attack on United States soil.

Last year, Congress passed a law that says no nation is allowed to conspire to carry out acts of terror against Americans on US soil. Falih said the law was passed during a "heated political period" under former President Barack Obama, who opposed the bill but pressed Riyadh on other human rights issues such as its role in the conflict in Yemen.

Leicester beats Sevilla 2-0, makes Champions League quarters
Despite being thoroughly outplayed in the first leg, Leicester somehow managed to come away with only a 2-1 defeat. However, Drinkwater has revealed the first-team players are certain who they want in charge for next season.

The papers claim Saudi Arabia raised and laundered money to support al Qaeda activities, funded terrorist training camps "where al Qaeda taught their hijackers the skills they used to carry out the September 11 attacks", and actively supported al Qaeda in its final preparations. A commission set up by the USA government to investigate found no evidence that the Saudi government directly funded al Qaeda but left open the possibility that individual officials did so.

While the first suits against Saudi Arabia were filed a month later, this is the first consolidated action filed against the Middle Eastern kingdom.

The Senate ultimately overrode Obama's veto last September in an overwhelming 97-1 vote.

Monday's lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, was brought by families of around 800 victims as well as approximately 1,500 individuals who suffered injuries after responding to the site of the attacks in NY. Trump met Tuesday with Saudi Arabia's Deputy Crown Prince and Defense Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss closer political and business cooperation between Washington and Riyadh.

Among other allegations, the complaint accuses Saudi officials of being aware that money was redirected from Saudi charities to al Qaeda to fund their attacks.
