MLB Hot Stove Trades: Braves acquire Brandon Phillips in deal with Reds

Phillips reportedly waived his no-trade clause Saturday.

The Atlanta Braves have acquired Brandon Phillips from the Cincinnati Reds for a low price and can look forward to reaping potentially tremendous benefits from a one-year rental of him. This isn't the first time the Reds tried to trade the second baseman.

She is being cared for in close proximity to mom and dad, Henry, so they can hear and smell each other, zoo officials said. The zoo also reported on Facebook that the hippo is up to 37 lbs and has been eating more than she ever has before.

Now, pending a physical, ESPN's Buster Olney reported Phillips is indeed on the way to the Braves. He has done that several times through the years, most notably blocking deals to the Nationals last offseason and the Yankees the offseason before that.

Phillips batted.291 with 11 homers and 64 RBIs last season. He has also revivified his stealing ability in the past two campaigns, stealing 23 bases in 2015 and 14 in 2016. Though he drew high marks for his defense at shortstop in the minors, his value was neutralized by struggles as a super-utilityman bouncing between leftfield, centerfield, shortstop and second base en route to a combined -8 DRS and 0.1 WAR.

For Atlanta, Phillips will serve as a stopgap until prospect Ozzie Albies is ready. The 28-year-old Portuondo is from Cuba and has yet to make it to the majors.
