Portland so far dodges snow storm, but rain could still turn

The snow is expected to begin about 6 or 7 a.m. Monday in Durango when temperatures are below freezing, said Andrew Lyons, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

(KMAland) - The National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow which is in effect from 10 PM this evening to noon CST Wednesday. A change to sleet, freezing rain and rain will occur Tuesday evening and overnight into early Wednesday.

Visibility could be poor at times and travel, risky due to heavy snow, the advisory reads: "Significant impacts to the Thursday morning rush are likely". It said that the storm would arrive late Wednesday and the chance it will drop "plowable snow is increasing and there is the possibility for six or more inches".

A developing storm will move up the coast on Thursday, spreading snow into Southern New England during the morning.

North country schools weren't the only places to close early Tuesday due to the threat of freezing rain.
