Minnesota players threaten to transfer after Claeys firing

Minnesota Golden Gophers head football coach Tracy Claeys has been fired despite notching best Gophers season in 13 years

I love and support all of you. According to the Star Tribune, the 10 suspended athletes have appeals scheduled with the university this month.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers won nine games this season, including a surprising win over Washington State in the Holiday Bowl. He ended his comments by directing a jab at the administration, saying that it is scary that a school will fire their coach for backing his players.

A lot of the criticism toward Claeys stems from a tweet he sent when the boycott was started December 15. "Claeys's tweet expressing his pride in the team failed to mention or acknowledge the importance of respecting women", the petition stated. He had taken over as head coach midway through the 2015 season after Jerry Kill resigned because of health reasons, and agreed to a contract that ran through the 2018 season.

"Coach Claeys' tweet later that week was not helpful", Coyle said in his statement Tuesday. "I don't believe any other coach in the NCAA would've stood up for the rights of due process, knowing that his job is one the line".

Minnesota underclassman: "Doesn't matter who coach is we don't want to play for administration. That's what our goal's going to be".

Thinking their teammates were being subjected to wrongful punishment after the police investigation resulted in no charges, the rest of the team announced a boycott of all team activities, which momentarily jeopardized Minnesota's participation in the Holiday Bowl.

Wild Oats XI off to rocky start in Sydney to Hobart race
At 9am when the news broke, Loyal was almost 17nm ahead of second-placed Giacomo, the Volvo 70 owned by New Zealander Jim Delegat. Wild Oats had won the three previous races, and a record eight overall.

The boycott initially attracted sympathy from many alumni and those concerned about issues of due process, but support for the university's stance grew as details emerged about what happened to the female student, in particular after a redacted version of the university's equal opportunity office's report on its investigation was published online. He wrote: "Have never been more proud of our kids. I respect their rights and support their effort to make a better world". But he also cited Claeys' tweet and offered a lengthy explanation on the discipline process.

That stance seemed to clash with the administration, particularly Coyle and President Eric Kaler, who were determined to respond decisively to allegations that had upset the community.

"I made a hard decision today on behalf of the University of Minnesota", Coyle said after Tracy Claeys confirmed to both his players and the media that he had been fired. Understandably others did not see it that way.

Public opinion did not side with the players or Claeys, and he talked openly about his job status being in question.

- Jalen Myrick (@5_On_It)How can someone makes such an idiotic decision. We suspend student-athletes while criminal investigations are ongoing.

"I feel bad for him once he gets here", Leidner said of the next coach.
